We built a flexible customization and content aggregation infrastructure using a "faster, lighter" version of the J2EE technology stack including Hibernate and Spring, with Velocity for templating and Struts for the web tier. The use of XML pipe-lines enabled us to quickly aggregate content from disparate content providers such as commercial web services, relational data, and legacy sources.
